Don’t Add to the Noise!

Lately I’ve been following Beth Moore’s blog fairly regularly (see sidebar for a link to her blog). Today I read her blog and wanted to share a “commission” she recently wrote. Apparently Beth just had an event in Chicago, and shared a “commission” with the ladies there, and posted the words on her blog, by popular demand. I saw Beth at an event a couple of years ago in Minneapolis. Each event is unique; she doesn’t have a canned speech she uses over and over. I’ve been so blessed by her Bible studies– excellent teaching. Anyway, she prays over each specific event and receives a word from God for that specific meeting. So below is the “commission” she posted on her blog today:

My Dear Sister,

Your God has called you

To use that mouth of yours

For His great glory.

Don’t just add to the noise.

Become a real woman

Who opens her mouth with wisdom.

God wants the Law of Kindness

On your tongue

And the love of Christ

In your heart.

Never forget:

Kindness is not a weakness!

When you’re wearing down

Head to Christ and His people

And let them build you back up.

Always remember:

His yoke is KIND.

Make sure

It’s the only yoke you wear.

It’s time to go our separate ways

But we’ll all meet up again

At the glorious epiphany of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Until then,

Let the One who led you here

Lead you on with cords of kindness.

Now, get out there

And build a welcoming fire

In a cold world.

Live by the Law of Kindness!

I love several of her comments, such as “Don’t just add to the noise/Become a real woman/Who opens her mouth with wisdom”. I also like “Kindness is not a weakness!” And, “Always remember: His yoke is KIND/Make sure it’s the only yoke you wear.” And she concluded with “Now get out there/And build a welcoming fire/In a cold world”.

Kindness. Must be the theme for today, because someone else I listened to today was exhorting about kindness. Kids can be very unkind to one another. Grown-ups can be very unkind to one another. We can all be unkind. We wound with our words, or our actions. And we think it makes us superior to be unkind; somehow we think putting another down elevates us. Actually it brings us down, too.

But God’s yoke is “KIND”. He has no other “kind” of yoke… “my yoke is easy and my burden is light”. Speaking or acting anything other than kindness is just “adding to the noise”. Just like it says in I Corinthians 13– anything but love is just “a clanging cymbal” or “sounding brass”. It’s just noise, and pretty annoying at that!

Oh God, that I would have your love pouring into me like rivers so that all that comes out of me is kindness and love! That is what I want. Give me more of you so that I have plenty of margin left to love with. There is nothing in my natural self that I can pull from. Your well is deep.
