Remember that old adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”?

Well, just maybe… if it’s something called “organic apple cider vinegar“.

Apple cider has been around for centuries, an ancient folk tale remedy that claims to help many different maladies. Is it just a folk tale, or could there be some value to this?

What is apple cider vinegar? Apple cider vinegar is made from apples that have been fermented into alcohol, and then fermented again into acetic acid. It is a natural product (like baking soda- which I talked about on Day 3), and another option worth looking into that is chemical-free.

According to WebMd, certain studies do show that apple cider vinegar is useful in helping those who suffer from diabetes, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, and several other ailments.

The claims for its benefits go beyond just these benefits of apple cider vinegar. Here are some other uses for apple cider vinegar:

  • Flea repellent
  • Stain remover from teeth
  • As a hair rinse after shampoo: Add 1/2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar to a cup of cold water; pour on hair.
  • Weight-loss: 2 tbsp in 16 oz  of water (sip during day)
  • Detox: 2 tbsp in a liter of water (sip during day)
  • Other reported benefits: useful in allergies, sore throats, acid reflux

Even so, it is best to consult your doctor, since there are a number of contraindications. Apple cider vinegar is highly acidic, it can reduce bone density, it can interfere with certain medications, and should be taken with a doctor’s advice if diabetic.

Include apple cider vinegar as part of a salad dressing, or mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with 8 ounces of water, add some honey, and drink.

{Again, please consult your doctor, nothing on this website it meant as a substitute for any kind of help or advice from a health professional!}

Have you tried apple cider vinegar as a home remedy, or know someone who has?
